DataMax Group is using Firefly Technology to Migrate its Magic Based Applications to .NET

DataMax Group is a world leader in software solutions for the convenience store and petroleum retailing industries. The company boasts more then 2,000 customers in 47 countries world-wide with over 10,000 install sites, supporting multi-lingual applications in Thai, French, English and more.

DataMax Group has chosen Firefly.Box technology after the completion of a long and extensive process of upgrading its applications to Magic's UniPaaS full Client (V 10). Having realized that the technological and business objectives were not achieved, DataMax Group began exploring the alternatives for migrating to Microsoft .Net technology. The decision to use Firefly.Box technology was reached only after DataMax Group was assured that Firefly.Box technology alone can guarantee a fully automated conversion process which imposes minimal risk within a pre-defined and fixed time-frame and cost.

According to Mr Peter Jackson, VP Engineering and Marketing at DataMax Group:. "Firefly has enabled us to migrate our complex application to a new C# .NET base with extraordinary ease. This migration has allowed us to make use of a more up to date "look and feel" along with enhanced performance and better use of more modern and flexible tools."

Noam Honig, CEO at Firefly says: "The success of the conversion project for DataMax Group is a major proof as to the applicability and uniqueness of Firefly.Box technology. Not only were we able to convert an application which is based on Magic's newest UniPaaS full Client (V 10) platform in a very tight schedule, we also achieved that with a global software leader in its field such as DataMax Group, who is now able to provide technological and business values for thousands of customers all over the world, while preserving and profiting from the massive investments made in the Magic applications.

DataMax Group joins a series of companies and organizations that have chosen to migrate their Magic based applications to Microsoft .Net using Firefly.Box technology, including: Israel Dairy Board, Zabar Tourism, Yedion (a supplier of on-line service solutions for Academic institutions), Beit-Hashita SW (a supplier of full management solutions for Academic institutions), and a Major Government office ,

Beit Hashitta Software selects Firefly's technology to convert its Magic systems to the Microsoft .NET environment

The cost of the project was not divulged, but is estimated to be around 600,000$

Firefly provides a unique state of the art solution for fully automated migration of Magic applications to the .NET environment. Firefly.Box announces yet another strategic client who chose to convert its Magic systems to the Microsoft environment: Beit Hashitta Software. The cost of the project was not divulged, but is estimated to be around NIS 2.5 million

Beit Hashitta Software develops and sells GILBOA, a management package for institutions of higher education, which is installed in dozens of leading academic institutions in Israel. The company selected the Firefly.Box technology after examining several available options, and decided to go ahead with the deal once realizing that this technology ensures a fully automated conversion, full training for the development team, and pre-set time scales and costs.

Uri Carmi, CEO of Beit Hashitta Software, says: "After many years of enjoying the reliable service provided by our Magic systems, we have sadly realized that as a company serving the academic sector, we were left with no other choice but to adopt the Microsoft standards, since all our clients, both existing and potential ones, rely on these technologies and expect the solutions they buy to do the same. As the CEO of a software house, I am thrilled that we finally have a solution which allows us to leverage the massive efforts we invested in our Magic systems, and update and standardize our systems through a short automatic process involving minimal business and technological risks."

Noam Honig, CEO of Firefly, says: "We are especially proud of our deal with Beit Hashitta Software, not only due to their being an important strategic client, but also since it involves one of the largest and most complex Magic systems around, in terms of code size, number of screens, reports and interfaces, client numbers and implementation process."

Honig also added: "We had to prove to the client that once their system was converted, they could continue maintaining and upgrade it using all the rich capabilities offered by the .NET environment. During the sales process, we worked alongside the client on the converted system's code, and together we made all the changes and adjustments that were necessary to present the system to GILBOA clients. That way, their technical team had a chance to study the converted system and learn to trust it."

Beit Hashitta Software joins an impressive list of companies and organizations which opted to convert their Magic systems to the .NET environment using Firefly's conversion solution during 2008, among which were: The Dairy Board, Tzabar Tourism and Holidays, Yedion (which develops and sells online software solutions to the higher education sector), a leading American software house and an Israeli government ministry.

About Beit Hashitta Software Beit Hashitta Software provides software solutions to institutions of higher education: Colleges and universities as well as other institutions offering technological and other qualifications. It specializes in providing software solutions which are used by about 80 institutions all over Israel and cover the whole range of the activities found in academic institutions.

Beit Hashitta Software was founded in 1984. Their specialization in software solutions for the educational and academic sectors started in 1988 with their first clients: several regional colleges and the College of Management. Since that time, the company became one of the leading providers of software for these sectors.

Firefly Migrates Tzabar's Booking System From Magic To The Microsoft .NET Environment Using Firefly.Box Technology

Firefly is migrating the booking system of Tzabar, a leading tourism operator in Israel, from Magic to the Microsoft .NET environment, using its fully automated migration technology, Firefly.Box. The system is now undergoing final testing prior to going live.

Before migrating to the Microsoft environment, Tzabar used a Magic-based domestic tourism management system. This system serves over 300 users.

The company wanted to migrate its Magic-based applications in order to improve staff availability for the maintenance of these applications and to use .NET technology's many advantages, while upgrading its offerings to the most up to date and predominant technology in the IT market.

Yitzhak Rosen, IT Manager of Tzabar , said: "Each day we face technological challenges which demand innovation and flexibility in order to provide customers with the solutions expected from us as a leading firm within a competitive market. Microsoft .NET was adopted as our strategic technology which the company shall use through the next decade.
Firefly was selected since it was the only company which promised, and then delivered, full migration of Tzabar's application with its full capabilities, at fixed costs, and within a reasonable timeframe."
Rosen added: "One of the critical issues for us was how easy the planned improvements to the migrated application will be, in light of its complexity and the many man years invested in the Magic one. We examined the migration products that Firefly provided us with, and found that the new application's code is short, readable and flexible."

Noam Honig, CEO of Firefly, said: "Having used Firefly's fully automated migration technology Tzabarwas able to migrate a critical operational system with minimal risks, within a short timeframe and at a low cost compared with any of the alternatives. All this was achieved without having to train the application's users, leveraging instead the many man years invested in its development. In addition, the new booking system is based on innovative .NET technology, through which the company may be able to address the business challenges it is facing."

Israel Dairy Board Has Migrated All Its Magic-Based Applications To The Microsoft.NET Environment Using Firefly Technology

The project is estimated at 100,000$

The Israeli Dairy Board has several Magic applications serving scores of users as well as the Board itself in its ongoing operations, including marketing, monitoring milk production levels and quality, etc.

The Israeli Dairy Board migrated its Magic-based applications in order to improve staff availability for the maintenance of these applications, and to upgrade its systems to the most up to date and predominant technology in the IT market.

According to Ami Tamir, IT Manager in the Dairy Board, "the marketing department's migrations were relatively fast compared to the other IT projects I had dealt with so far. Also, the migration products received at our testing environment were superb. Only a marginal amount of bugs were discovered, and when we authorized the production environment installation, our users hardly noticed the change. At the same time, management instructed us to apply massive changes to the system itself when it already was in a complete .NET environment. Our programmer has never worked in a .NET environment before, and so she had a small number of training sessions in Firefly's unique work environment, which offers a large set of fast development tools. The result was that we successfully made all the deadlines set for the changes, which we finished to the very last. Our challenge today is to combine this system with other sexy BI tools and applications for data analysis and segmentation."

Noam Honig, Firefly's CEO said that : "for organizations such as the Dairy Board, which don't have a large development team, having a small number of bugs, the ability to retain the programmers and the speed of the development were critical issues. Our solution allows fast migration of both the applications and the programmer – so that immediately following the migration, the programmer had already started developing a new .NET module, which she completed in a record time. At the same time, she reported that the development speeds were much higher than those she experienced using Magic."
